Words of Wisdom with Hospice CEO Tracee Capron

Inexpug Walking

Meet Tracee Capron

Above all, what you need to know about Tracee Capron is that she loves Hospice. In fact, it was an experience decades ago — watching her grandmother suffer in an ICU before eventually returning home to pass — that convinced her she would make it her life’s work.

A native East Coaster and a Cleveland Clinic-trained oncology nurse, she assumed the executive director duties at Hospice of the Red River Valley eight years ago. She’s learned a lot in her time as a North Dakota transplant — both good and bad — and has led Hospice to new heights in less than a decade as its CEO.

We sat down with her to learn about what initially brought her here, why she’s never afraid to ask for help, and how cultivating relationships with her board members has made all the difference.

3 Quick Takeaways

  1. As a CEO, you need to find people on your board you can be 100 percent honest with and lean on during hard times.
  2. Getting to know your board members on a more personal level helps create trust, which ultimately makes the whole board better.
  3. CEOs should strive to surround themselves with people who think differently than them.
